Additional Supports and Resources
CLMS provides many academic support programs which are aimed at assisting students at various levels to bridge gaps in learning as well as support goal achievement.
Support Classes
Advancement Via Individual Determination
AVID is a non-profit, national program which focuses on a student driven approach to learning. AVID programs help students gain skills and insight to prepare for college, careers, and life.
At CLMS, our AVID program is directed by Mrs. Mondragon, Mrs. Gatrost, and Mrs. Henry. |
Study Skills and Math Support Courses
Our math and language arts support classes are designed to help students grow in the skills they need to be successful by filling in gaps of understanding, providing additional opportunities to practice, and teaching content from another perspective.
Math Support Courses are offered in combination with a student's current math class to provide additional assistance and opportunity for practice. The evidence based practices in these classes allow for targeted interventions to address math deficits. In addition to these interventions and one to one assistance, students are able to use web-based programs to enhance the learning process.

ALEKS is a mathematics program which assesses current level of math understanding for each individual student and custom tailors a curriculum accordingly.
This program can be accessed at home as well as at school. Students in a Math Support Course will have a username and password to log in with. |
Support Services
Student Study Team (SST)
When a student is struggling, a group may be formed to create a Student Study Team (SST). The SST group works with parents and teachers to identify academic, behavioral, and socio-emotional concerns and to then develop and work toward goals through strategic intervention. The team usually consists of an administrator, support personnel, a teacher, parents, and the child. SST meetings differ from parent-teacher conferences in their targeted goals and the implementation of strategies to aid students in reaching those goals.
A student may be referred to the SST coordinator by a teacher/staff member or by a parent. When a meeting is held, each member of the team will be able to share concerns and works towards developing a plan. Each SST meeting is unique, as each student's needs will vary and the interventions provided will be specific to each student. For a better understanding of the SST process, please reference the flow chart below:
